ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Submissions are invited for the 10th Biennial Conference of Caribbean and International Social Work Educators to be held in Schoelcher, Fort de France-Martinique, July 11 -15, 2011.
The biennial conference, sponsored by the Association of Caribbean Social Work Educators (ACSWE), holds a distinctly prestigious position on the calendars of Social Work Educators, researchers and practitioners in the Caribbean Community and its Diaspora. Since 1993, it has been hosted by Institutions that teach and conduct research on Social Work in the Caribbean. Previous conferences have been held in Barbados (1993), Guyana (1995), Trinidad and Tobago (1997), Jamaica (1999), the Bahamas (2001), Barbados (2003), Jamaica (2005), Trinidad and Tobago (2007) and Guyana (2009).
Theme
The theme for the 2011 Conference: “Building Bridges Towards Caribbean Integration and Social Development,” seeks to address the mandate of stakeholders and constituents in our region to bring specific focus to our current experiences and events with a view to shaping solutions and resolutions while fostering greater integration.
Abstracts
Social Work researchers, educators, practitioners and students are invited to submit abstracts for presentations in the following thematic areas:
- Youth and community development
- Social Work and social exclusion within the Caribbean region
- Accreditation and employment accessibility within the Caribbean and internationally
- Student exchanges and international field placements
- Cultural and professional identity of social workers within the Caribbean
- Minority groups:
-Elderly -Poor
-Persons with HIV and AIDS -Street children
-Physically and/or mentally challenged -Mentally ill
-Immigrants -Deportees
- Caribbean Social Policies
- Environment and vulnerability
- Social Work and sustainable development
- Culture and social issues (using the nuances of Caribbean culture to solve social issues)
- Globalisation and Social Work
- Millennium Development Goals in the Caribbean context
- Social Work and human rights
- Caribbean Social Work responses to current social problems (poverty, inter-regional migration, immigration, child abuse and neglect, homelessness, intimate partner violence, crime and violence, human trafficking, HIV and AIDS, etc.)
Submission of Abstracts
The Conference Committee welcomes abstracts from educators, practitioners and from person doing research and evaluation which is relevant and applicable to Caribbean clients and populations.
Guidelines for Submissions
Abstracts should consist of no more than 500 words, typed and double spaced on letter size paper. A 50-70 word summary of the abstract must accompany the cover page:

Deadline for Submission
Abstracts should be received by March 31th, 2011
Review and Notification Process
The Abstract Committee will review all submission. Proponents may expect to be advised by April 30, 2011 of the outcome of the panel’s decisions.
Conference Format
These include plenary presentations, concurrent academic panels, poster presentations and workshops. Presenters who wish to have their papers considered for publication in the Caribbean Journal of Social Work (CJSW) – a peer reviewed journal that has been published annually by the ACSWE since 2002 – should submit completed papers by May 30, 2011.
